A TikTok video posted by an influencer has sparked a conversation in the comments section about how to travel with electronic devices.
The woman said her new MacBook broke during a flight after she stored it in the pocket of the seat in front of her.
She said the person in front of her had leaned their seat back and forth, adding, “fair enough, it’s not their fault.”
“While they were doing that, the pressure in the seat cracked my screen,” she explained.
The video then shows her laptop screen with the top right cracked, blurry and shiny, with lines hitting the screen.
A text was added to the video saying that her laptop is now black and unresponsive.
Fox News Digital reached out to the passenger on the flight for comment.
TikTok users took to the comments section to discuss similar encounters and question the laptop’s storage.
“I travel with my laptop 100% of the time and still don’t put it there 100% of the time,” said one man.
Another woman commented: “I’m afraid this will happen to me.
“This is why laptops should be placed in the overhead compartment for take-off, landing and turbulence,” suggested one user.
One TikToker commented, “Omg I always put my laptop there.”
“Then it was worth making this video! Don’t do it again,” the influencer responded.
“Thanks for sharing!!! Sorry this happened to you, hope you find an easy way to replace the screen,” said another.
One user commented, “Putting your laptop in your seat pocket is really your fault.”
“It happened to my glasses”, commented a woman.
Many users focused their attention on the cleanliness of the seats.
“Don’t put anything in those seat pockets… they never get cleaned and are usually used to store dirty nappies/trash etc,” said one.
Another user said: “Don’t put anything in the seat pocket, they’re dirty.”
In November, American Airlines apologized to a first-class passenger after user X posted a photo of a reclining seat in front of him.
“First class. Dude’s on my lap,” said the user, who pointed to the reclining seat, which appeared to be pressed against the knees.
American Airlines responded to the user saying, in part, “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will pass this right on to the maintenance folks for review. We apologize again.”
Travel advisor Carly Rae Cook told Fox News Digital via email that she always recommends caution when storing laptops or delicate monitors on planes.
“Some of these seats on airplanes recline quite far, so have a plan every time you get out of your laptop. If someone reclines quickly, it can send your laptop flying if you’re not prepared,” Cook said.
Cook suggests having a protective cover and a carrying case.
“I always travel with a laptop and have a hard cover and then slip it into a soft carrying case for extra protection. You can never be too careful,” she added.
