Young people are swiping left on mainstream dating apps — and swiping right on Facebook.
As dating app fatigue grows and people are burned out from scrolling through apps like Hinge, Bumble and Tinder, younger generations are turning to Facebook Dating to find their match.
According to Axios, daily Facebook Dating conversations among users aged 18 to 29 have grown 24% over the past year.
More than half of new adult users on the app return loyally, according to data shared with the media by Facebook, with 55% of women and 56% of men returning monthly.
And people are getting results too – mostly women.
Data shows that a woman’s “like” is more likely to result in a match. On average, 11% of men’s likes end in a match, while 72% of women’s likes end in a match.
Women are also looking for long-term relationships at a higher rate than men, with 47% of women looking for a long-term partner compared to 35% of men.
Overall, 38% of young people in the US and Canada are looking for a long-term relationship and 28% are looking for something casual.
Ayla Tse, 27, told Axios that she found the “love of her life” through Facebook Dating.
Through the app, Tse met Nik Dorozhkinrom, 24, and the couple have been together for two years.
The Brooklyn duo found each other when Tse was “getting fed up with patterns on other apps,” such as ghosts and fuzzy responses. Facebook Dating had “the right time and the right atmosphere” for a match, she told the media.
“I like how easy it is to set up,” Tse said. “Which is basically easy! I love how you can see who has liked you too without paying. And I liked the people there more than other apps.”
Facebook Dating differs from other dating apps in that all its features are free – there are no fees for upgrades.
And since the app is through Facebook, users are able to see if they have friends in common with their match while still keeping their profile hidden from friends, another boon in the dating app world.
